Mid 19th century sculptured horse head from Jaipur in Rajasthan.
 
These were originally used in pairs and placed either side of a doorway , fabulous patina aged and cracked due to exposure to harsh sunlight,  remnants of original paint visible, hand carved in teak
 
Sourced from Jaipur in Rajasthan, these highly decorative Mewar horse heads started life as a matching pair either side of a doorway as they were said to ward off evil spirits and offer protection to the occupants.  
 
There is a hanging hook already on the back.
 
This one is a lovely pale colour and  has intricate carving.  It is in good condition but as with all vintage items, it does have wear and tear as you would expect for its age.
