History shines through in vintage items and this one is special. 


A mid-century Colonel's Decanter Travelling Box belonging to Lt. Colonel Bryant Gustav Symes, D.S.O and O.B.E - inscribed on the top with his name and faintly 'The Dorsetshire Regiment'.


Lt. Colonel Symes was sent to France and  Belgium in 1939, where he remained until he was driven back to Dunkirk by the advancing German forces in 1940.  The was awarded the O.B.E. for distinguished service in the Field (London Gazette 6th June 1946).  He went on to Burma before retiring to Folkstone.


Its a large sturdy box, with 2 metal handles, inscribed on the top lid and has 9 compartments inside which just happen to be the perfect size for wine storage.
